Letters from Our Readers

This week readers discussed the Democratic Party’s theater and the new arms race in outer space. We share your letters for “The Democratic Party’s Theatrical Performance: Fooling Black Voters for Decades” and “Keep War, Environmental Degradation and Profit Out of Space.”

“The Democratic Party’s Theatrical Performance: Fooling Black Voters for Decades” by Solomon Comissiong criticizes the party’s faux opposition to racism.

Rashard Zanders writes:

“Saddest thing is that the people seem to want to be deceived. For example, we can itemize Obama's lack of substance on issues all day, and yet people will still defend him as if he and only he is the realization of ‘The Dream,’ which is a joke.”

Sam Anderson writes:

“Therefore, Black folk don’t need to vote at all this November. The lesser of two evils still brings racist and class oppression to Black folk and other nonwhite folk.”

Dani El writes:

“There will be four more years of white supremacy regardless of the left or right. Your vote is always quid pro quo. You wait and support a candidate that unapologetically supports a Black agenda. Be careful what you wish for....you think Trump is bad.... and that is a warning.”

Bob Bows writes:

“Yes, in fact, it was Sen. Joe Biden that guided Bill Clinton's crime bill, which resulted in massive increases in incarcerations of Blacks. Obama and Biden did nothing to change this. The blue party is owned and operated by the same small group of financiers that own and operate the red party.”

Dru McCoy writes:

“I like what I hear from Bernie: Justice and Safety for All. Today, we say to the prison-industrial-complex that we are going to bring about real criminal justice reform. We are going to end the international embarrassment of having more people in jail than any other country on earth. Instead of spending $80 billion a year on jails and incarceration, we are going to invest in jobs and education for our young people. No more private prisons and detention centers. No more profiteering from locking people up. No more ‘war on drugs.’ No more keeping people in jail because they're too poor to afford cash bail.”

In “Keep War, Environmental Degradation and Profit Out of Space” Kevin Zeese and Margaret Flowers call for opposition to the US led arms race.

Stuart L. Cipinko writes:

“One can only hope that its overweening sense of self-importance, exceptionality, arrogance, along with its murderous, destructive, constant war-making on absolutely non-threatening (aside from threatening to US corporate-capitalist rapacity) countries and peoples. We (the US) needs to start -- immediately -- minding its own bloody business; there's plenty that needs desperate attention here at home.”

The new arms race is an enemy of the poor. We will have to keep up our analysis of it and find new ways to organize for peace.
