Gang Activity is False Cover for Mass NYC Arrests

Mass arrests targeting hundreds of young Black and brown New Yorkers are based on false premises and hyped-up evidence, said Robert Gangi, of the Police Reform Organizing Project (PROP). “The vast majority of them are not involved in any serious gang activity,” said Gangi. “The police and district attorneys use gangs and gang activity as a cover for arresting lots and lots Black and brown men and boys…and the press generally buys that rationale.”
