Letters from Our Readers

This week’s column discusses the Bernie Sanders campaign, Medicare for All, and white supremacy in Venezuela. The best letters came for “Freedom Rider: Black Voters Used to Destroy Bernie Sanders,” “Pelosi Sabotages Medicare For All, But Corporate Media Pretend Not to Notice,” and “In Venezuela, White Supremacy Is a Key Driver of the Coup.”

In “Freedom Rider: Black Voters Used to Destroy Bernie Sanders” Margaret Kimberley argues that the liberal establishment is using false allegations of racism to turn black voters against the social democratic Senator.

Jericho Jones writes:

“Margaret Kimberley is right about the Democratic Party of course, but I don’t know why anyone would feel bad about Sanders himself losing. He hasn’t a clue how to use power and has shown no inclination to learn. Good intentions cannot overcome the killer instincts of the ruling class.
That Sanders gained such power as he did, then loyally handed it over to monsters he knew were monsters. That alone disqualifies him as anything more demanding than, say, president of Bard College.”

In “Pelosi Sabotages Medicare For All, But Corporate Media Pretend Not to Notice” Glen Fordexposes the corporate media’s silence on the top Democrat’s plot to derail the most popular domestic policy proposal of this century.

Wallace Nixon writes:

“She is member of deep state dressed up as the loyal opposition and an expert at bait and switch. Like all collaborators, she is especially glib and sharp but her history tells who she is. She engineered the ouster of Cynthia McKinney on two separate occasions and like all politicians in Congress serves as a shock absorber between the ruling elite and the gullible credulous public who think voting is participating in government. She, like Obama, is the ultimate ‘new Democrat,’ who represents nothing but herself and her employers who pay for her campaigns. If politics were like gambling at a casino I would bar her like a gambler who counts cards.”

“In Venezuela, White Supremacy Is a Key Driver of the Coup” Greg Palast exposes the coup as a backlash by whiter and wealthier Venezuelans against the mixed race and Black majority.

Tyler Westbrook writes:

“Haiti and Venezuela have much love for each other. Haiti sent soldiers to Venezuela to fight in their revolution. The stooge Haitian president, voted Venezuela out of the OAS, smoothing the path for American aggression against Venezuela. Haiti receives its fuel from Venezuela, through petro Carib. Venezuela gave the fuel in a deal. The Haitian government was to sell the fuel, and use 70℅ of the proceeds to develop Haiti infrastructure. The remaining 30℅ was to be paid back...in fifty years. This would enable Haiti to lift itself from poverty, create jobs, put in water, sewer, electricity, roads, hospitals, and deal with garbage, and much more.
“Where is the money?
“Nobody knows, it was stolen.
“Now, in an act of treachery, Haiti, against the will and its people, voted out Venezuela of the OAS (Organization of American States, with treaties prohibiting attacking each other).
“And the deal for fuel has been cut, forcing Haiti now to buy fuel from the United States, and higher prices, and the proceeds not helping them.
“See what they did there?
“This is gasoline on the fires of this revolution now.”

James Pitts writes:

“This post is absolutely correct, there are people in this world who are terrified at the idea of so called people of color being in charge of one of the largest oil reserves in the world. It is so incredible that here we are in so called 2019 and people are not aware that this take over is being attempted by the half white children of the oil industry workers and administration from 50 years ago.”

It is true that self-determination over resources is the most terrifying thing to white supremacists. Though the only way that can become a reality is by finding the right ideas to make it so. Here’s to another week of your comments with this mind.
