Raymond Nat Turner, BAR poet-in-residence
10 Jul 2024
Project 2025

“How can anyone tell the truth about Fascism,
unless he is willing to speak out
against capitalism, which brings it forth?”
—Bertolt Brecht, 1935

I.

Will workers’ struggles survive—
Fools smoking “Sieg Heil!" jive?
Confederate dreams to deprive?
Schemes Koch-heads contrive?
Ten Commandment overdrive?
Another nasty nosedive?

II.

Project 2025—
Will fascism finally arrive?
Like poisonous Hitler hive?
Where ‘white’ neo-nazis thrive?

Project 2025—
Heritage-Federalist jive—
Fighting to keep death ‘alive?’
Like Frankenstein forty-five ?

Project 2025—
An ol orange king’s test drive?
To starve, imprison, deprive?
Muscle: PDs and ‘House of Five?’

Project 2025—
Capitalism must rive—
Shedding blood to revive
Its ol Dixie union drive?

Project 2025—
Day One Dictator’s Archive?
Il Duce-Führer revive?
Viktor coaching forty-five?

Project 2025—
Supreme Courtesans connive—
Swastika, stars and bars jive
Unified— WE will survive!

III.

Crescendoing January 6th hoofbeat
like jackbooted lil bone-spurred feet—
Liar coming again to steal and cheat
Ill wind returning fascist Boss Tweet
on Electoral College wings— obsolete—
White Supreme Court hood and sheet …

Defeating Tweet again … is bittersweet—
When it’s capitalism we must unseat …
