Letters from Our Readers

This week you discussed the struggle against the dollar and neocolonialism. We share your letters for “World Rebelling Against Dollar Domination” and “Haiti: Black Despots and White Rulers.”

In radio segment “World Rebelling Against Dollar Domination” Gerald Horne argues that the United States government’s overuse of sanctions is pushing both friends and foes to find ways of circumventing use of the dollar.

Paul Billings writes:

“Terrific interview with Professor Horne. This gets to your point about the ability of the dollar to continue as the worlds reserve currency. As Horne concludes, ‘US imperialism is entangled in a knot of contradictions from which there is no escape.’”

“Haiti: Black Despots and White Rulers” by Jemima Pierre argues that the struggle of the Haitian people is not just against corrupt Haitian rulers but the global system of white supremacy that keeps them in power.

Akilah Jones writes:

“This is really upsetting to me, the condition of Haiti for so long. I am an American humanitarian and I haven't been able to get back there since 2017. The people are clearly protesting Moise, have been for some time. When other nations protest tyranny, it is international news, when African or Caribbean countries (specifically Haiti) protest, you have to find an article about it, and they are just a part of my algorithm!

“All of this in our own backyard. Black Americans have to also be willing to make more of a stink about this. Thank you for this article. It was just announced Sunday that our trip would be postponed again, now I know why.”

All shades of ruling class opinion has obscured the role of imperialism in the modern world. The struggle of a principled left must be to clarify the role of imperialism for the masses in this country.
