Black women are the fastest growing segment of the US prison population, said Efia Nwangaza, director of the Malcolm X Center for Self-Determination, in Greenville, South Carolina, who teamed up with other human rights activists to form the Black Momma’s Mothers Day Bail-Out Collective. “The ultimate objective is not only to bring our sisters home, but also to eliminate money bail altogether, which is just another tax on poor people,” said Nwangaza.
