Anti-War Movement Must Adopt to Changing Imperial Wars

The US is expanding its wars and regime change plans, especially in its use of economic sanctions, which now target 39 countries containing one-third of the global population, said Sara Flounders, of UNAC, the United National Anti-War Movement. UNAC will hold a conference at New York City’s People’s Forum, February 22-24, to “alert the movement that the wars are changing, refining, and are also accelerating at home,” said Flounders.

A National Movement for Community Control of Police

New York activists look forward to collaborating with the newly established National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression in creating a network to fight for community control of police “all across the country,” said former Black Panther Shepard McDaniel, aka “Brother Shep.” The Panther Party advocated for community hiring and firing of cops “back in the Sixties,” said McDaniel, who later helped launch a campaign to establish community control of police by referendum.

After Impeachment, What?

Mumia Abu Jamal, the nation’s best known political prisoner and a prolific political analyst and author, said: “While history books will note that Donald Trump was impeached, beyond that it will mean next to nothing, for he will not be removed from office. Without that, there is nothing,” because for men like Trump, only power matters.

US War on Black and Brown Youth

“The term ‘gang’ is used for formations of young Black and brown men, but is never seriously used to describe the greatest purveyor of violence in the world, the US military,” said Justin “Mujahid” Kaliebe, a prison activist housed at the federal lockup in Jesup, Georgia. “They’re afraid of these youths,” said Kaliebe, “not because of what they do, but what they can become if they get organized and politically educated.”

Black Girl Magic

Artists Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé “represent a kind of ethos of Black political commitment in the 21st century, said Aria Halliday, professor of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of New Hampshire. Halliday co-authored an article in the Black journal “Soul,” titled “The Power of Black Girl Magic Anthems: Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, and ‘Feeling Myself’ as Political Empowerment.”

Black Agenda Radio on the Progressive Radio Network is hosted by Glen Ford and Nellie Bailey. A new edition of the program airs every Monday at 11:am ET on PRN. Length: one hour.
