Black Is Back Coalition Holds Conference on Community Control of Police

“We must deepen the resistance to police terror and all attempts to protect a status quo of colonial domination of our people,” the 17 organizations of the coalition declared.

“The capitalist system is engaged in questioning its own legitimacy and future.”
On August 7t and 8th 2021, the Black is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace and Reparations (BiBC) will host it’s 12th Annual Conference themed “Deepening the Resistance to Police Terror: Honoring our Political Prisoners and Prisoners of War - Black Community Control of the Police.” The virtual conference aims to take our struggle forward, during this ever-deepening crisis enveloping the U.S. and the colonial-capitalist world; establish a coherent mission for the Coalition; and define the tasks of the U.S.-based Black Liberation Movement, at this time.

The Black is Back Coalition is a coalition of 17 different Black organizations united around anti-imperialist principles of self-determination.  In 2009 the coalition organized the first and only national “Black” demonstration against the Obama White House regime.

The Chair of the Black is Back Coalition, Omali Yeshitela, the Chairman of the African People’s Socialist Party-USA states, “The May 25, 2020 grotesque police murder of George Floyd and the three months of more than 10,000 demonstrations and uprisings within the U.S. as well as others supporting our struggle in 60 different countries clearly reveal that the time is ripe to escalate our fight.

The Black is Back National Conference is occurring during this period of a critically-fractured and irreversibly weakened oppressive colonial-capitalist system. It is a system that is engaged in questioning its own legitimacy and future. Its bluster within and globally is evidence of weakness, not strength. It’s growing features of repression are but statements of political and economic fragility . . .This is our time. We must deepen the resistance – to police terror and all attempts to protect a status quo of colonial domination of our people and others suffering expropriation of the right to self-determination…” -

“The time is ripe to escalate our fight.”

Day one of the conference, August 7th, will feature: 1) a summary of the dynamic work of the Coalition and the Coalition’s Working Groups, over the past year, highlighting the Coalition's Declaration and 19 Point Platform, the National Black Political Agenda for Self-Determination;

2) presentations from Chairman Omali Yeshitela, leader of the African People’s Socialist Party and the Uhuru Movement; and 3) a presentation by Glen Ford, from the Black Agenda Report.

On August 8, the Coalition will honor political prisoners and prisoners of war, by sharing their heroism and sacrifice with the world, and extolling their actions as examples worthy of emulation.

Registrants  will hear from former political prisoners and prisoners of war, as well as family members of those still being held in U.S prisons today.
