Time For The CBC and our Black Political Class Denounce Apartheid and Ethnocracy in Israel-Palestine

The contradiction between the supposed origin of our black political class out of the struggle against Jim Crow and its collaboration with Israeli apartheid can't be resolved. We can only save the good name of our own people by calling out the black US collaborators with apartheid, holding them up to derision and ridicule, by sustaining a storm of disapproval and opprobrium until they and the ethnocratic regime in Israel are no more.

Time For The CBC and our Black Political Class Denounce Apartheid and Ethnocracy in Israel-Palestine

by BAR managing editor Bruce A. Dixon

Two weeks ago, Black Agenda Report asked why black America's enlightened and powerful political class of preachers, politicians, media figures, celebrities and business leaders were conspicuously silent while US F-16 fighters, drones and artillery bombarded defenseless Palestinians penned up in Gaza, an open air prison with six times the population density of Manhattan. Last week, Black Agenda Report pointed out that even as Israeli ground troops invaded Gaza and the death toll climbed toward a thousand civilians, disproportionately children, the Congressional Black Caucus unanimously endorsed the ongoing massacres in the name of Israel supposedly “defending itself.”

    We explored the three reasons for their silent, and in come cases their very loud complicity in the crimes of apartheid Israel;

    1. The black political class, from the CBC, the NAACP, NAN, the Urban League and even NNPA, the organized voice of black owned newspapers, nowadays consistently represents the interests of their funders over their supposed constituents. A fair number of those funders are zionists and pro-zionists.

    2. The black political class has always been slavishly subservient to the Democratic party. They place its interests so far above their own that when the CBC members refused to demand or take part in hearings around the Katrina disaster almost a decade ago, even after it was clear that authorities intended to force the exile of more than one hundred thousand African Americans from the New Orleans area. Now that a black Democrat sits in the White House, cowardly CBC members would rather chew off their own feet than contradict him. After all, if a black president can be denounced by other black politicians, how safe are their own careers?

    3. Israel is an open ethnocracy, in which full membership in society is only granted to Jews. It's the 21st century's premiere apartheid state, surrounded by walls and barbed wire, crisscrossed with Jewish-only roads between settlements overlooked by military outposts, on land that was the villages, farms, graveyards and orchards of Palestinians only 60 years ago, sometimes only a year or two ago. Israeli politicians make open appeals to anti-Arab and anti-black racism, and talk about removing Arabs is ordinary stuff. For idle amusement, Israeli youth forms mobs to terrorize Palestinian villages, or assault Arabs and Africans on the street, and Israeli grandmothers gather on the hillsides overlooking Gaza to cheer as white phosphorus rains down on Palestinian children. The massacres in Gaza are only an intensification of Israel's daily violence of occupation, settlement and ethnic cleansing.

For the black political class, the first two are reasons not to criticize the state of Israel, or the president.

The third is an insoluble contradiction between reality and the myth of their own origin as having emerged from the just struggle of the Freedom Movement against racism and Jim Crow in the US. It's a contradiction they wish fervently to ignore, one they wish someone else would solve, or that would just go away before too many people notice. But it's already too late for that.

There's a dead dog in the room. No matter how intently the CBC, the black political class, and even the black church, whose uncritical embrace of corporate funded black political leaders make it as guilty as every other part of that class – the longer and harder they hypocritically pretend to ignore the stink of ethnocracy and apartheid the more it clings to them.

The only force that can free our black political class from its embrace of racist apartheid and genocidal occupation in Israel is us --- all of us down here on the ground. Our leaders, from the Al Sharptons, the Congressional Black Caucus, and the big black pastors, to the Urban League and NAACP, all of whom claim they once opposed apartheid in South Africa but are its willing collaborators with it in Israel, must be called out and forced to publicly choose which side they're on.

It's past time for equivocation, it's past time for politeness. They can join the global movement to boycott, to sanction and to divest from the apartheid settler state of Israel. They can become allies of millions of Jews, Muslims, Christians and others working for a single, secular government of all the people of Israel-Palestine, or they can remain on the wrong side of morality and history. They can be remembered and reviled with their allies, the racists, the colonialists, the warmongers and imperialists.

This is no time for a lofty declaration of principles, of which there are several going around. A declaration of principles calls nobody out, and is directed at nobody in particular, as if the discourtesy of calling some culprit or collaborator's name outweighs the deaths of innocent children in Gaza. It's no time for causes.com or change.org petition, another Facebook page or Twitter hashtag. All these tropes of social media activism are dead ends for the well-intentioned provided by corporate social media to make us feel as if we're doing something, but all of them impede rather than help any actual organizing.

Not of these corporate social media platforms, not Facebook, not Twitter, not change.org nor causes.com provide organizers with the email contact info of the people who sign the petitions, who “like” the Facebook page, who retweet and use the hashtag of the day. All of them keep the signer, retweeter, liker emails for their own lists, not yours. Each and every one sells analyses of the patterns of people you influence and are influenced by to the highest bidder. What bamboozled kind of “organizer” uses tools that prevent her from recontacting the people she has supposedly “organized”?

We at Black Agenda Report bill ourselves as the black left's journal of political thought and action. So here's some action. We're launching a petition demanding that the Congressional Black Caucus denounce the Israeli occupation, the racist ethnocracy that Israel has made itself into, and the apartheid policies of the Israeli government. We'd like to see ten thousand signers, and those signers WILL be recontacted by us and our allies directly. The petition will be live and online at 8AM Eastern Time tomorrow morning.

If you're on our email list, you'll receive notice of this tomorrow morning, along with a link to our article on James Brown. Thanks.

Bill Fletcher Takes Black Church to Task for Silence on Gaza-WTF

[see @ http://therealnews.com/t2/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=31&Itemid=74&jumival=12234 ]. As the folks here @ BAR well know [IE: Bros Ford, Dixon, etc] Fletcher was a founder of 'Progressives for Obama' urging Blacks along w Browns & progressive to vote for Obama twice- both in 2008 & 2012. Considering that the Black Church does NOT make nor run US foreign policy, but rather Obama's regime does- IMO it's curous that Fletcher chooses to critique the Black Church re US policy vis-a-vis the IDF, instead of Obama. In fact the more I read & listened to this post, the more pissed-off I got!

Here's my comment re: this Real News piece featuring Fletcher: } So Fletcher asks why the Black Church is silent on the Gaza issue, but does the Black Church set &/or run US foreign policy vis-a-vis the IDF, or is it not the Obama regime in tandem w the US congress? FYI: Fletcher urged Blacks, Browns & progressives to vote for Obama twice- both in 2008 [even w Nader & Ms Cynthia McKinney running as 3rd party candidates] & doubled-down again in 2012. Fletcher in fact helped set-up the so-called 'Progressives for Obama' org. So is this why Fletcher chooses to critique the Black Church on the issue of Israel-Palestine rather than Obama? IMO it's telling that here Fletcher fails to even mention Obama, it took Rev Brown to do so [one of the guest that Fletcher interviewed on this issue].

    The era of MLK & Malcolm, during the 1960s where Black ministers set the moral tone for politicians & held them accountable, unfortunately is over [at-least at present]. The tendency now, especially in the age of Obama, is for Blacks in general including Black Revs [IE: Revs Al & Jesse], to follow Obama's lead, & certainly NOT criticize him in public- especially on non-domestic issues. Hell Fletcher takes the Black Church to task on the Gaza issue, yet Blacks stood-down as OBomber along w Killery [I Came, I Saw, He Died- Ha, ha, ha] Clinton, Sue Rice & Sam Power led FUK-US NATO's destruction of Libya in 2011- unleashing that Racist LYNCH-MOB on Black Libyans & African migrant workers there! Uhm did Fletcher have much to say about that or Obama's other AFRICOM machinations??? So what the hell makes Fletcher think Blacks are going to challenge Obama re the Gaza issue, when Fletcher himself fails to do so, & they did NOT even challenge OBomber re his key role in FUK-US NATO's 8 month phony 'R2P' bombing assault on Libya??! {

    Fletcher voted for Droneman

Fletcher voted for Droneman twice.  No surprise he will still walk to the moon and back before he dare call his president out on ANYTHING.  As for calling out black churches for not speaking out about Gaza, at least half of black churches don't have a clue as to WTF is going on in Gaza (much less know such a place exists).   Those who are aware of the issue get their info from the Ministry of Misinformation alphabet soup of CNN, MSNBC, NPR, etc. which means they don't know nothing but shit and lies.   Add to this the ingrained religious bent towards hallowed Israel and Gazans won't get any sympathy much less protests from the "black church."  Further, the average black or white US citizen cares little about foreign affairs.  About the only thing they'll rile up about is outsourcing because they see their jobs going offshore.  Even then, some dunderheads (esp white working class and poor) blame unions for this (they get their daily brainwash from Fox and Rush).  Fletcher knows this along with fact that it is Obomber who he should be directing his criticism.  If a Republican or all-white Democrat were in office, these Negroes and their white liberal allies would be hoarse from ranting about Nixon, Carter, Bush, Clinton or whoever was "in charge" and we had the shitstorm we do now of brokeassness, police state, gutting of public sector, and the list goes on.   But that black face fronting the empire is Kryptonite against criticism and demanding even a crumb for the masses so Fletcher and his ilk focus on everything but the right thing - the deliberate crimes and misdemeanors of this administration (which will end up being in the top five of the most corrupt admin in history).

They Need to Denounce Racism Here, First!!!

Everything Bruce wrote here and said on "Make It Plain" is right on but for the wrong people.  We don't have enough resources to share with everybody else. At least not anymore, if we ever did.  We have so many problems and have so many people shooting at us from all sides, including Palestinian Arabs in Houston, Chicago, Detroit, and elsewhere, that we can't afford to have solidarity with anybody else but ourselves. Black people, we need to fight our own fight and let others fight theirs.  These other people either will use us until they get what they want and then turn on us (i.e. Jews and Latinos) or they have total disdain for us and don't want anything to do with us (i.e. ethnic Whites and Asians.)

Too many of our activists and leaders are either believe there's no other fronts to fight in our struggle for freedom because legal segregation is over; or that economic justice is too difficult an issue to tackle; or they lack confidence in themselves and our people and feel we need to "make alliances;" or they're like Al Sharpton and are just looking for another paycheck so they lend their Civil Rights Cred. to other people's causes.  If we're going to internationalize our struggle, then we must seek solidarity with blacks in Africa, the Carribbean, Latin America, Europe, and the rest of the diaspora and not with people who if they could, would pile on us with whites to destroy us.

I'm with any effort to hold politicians, policymakers, preachers, public servants, and businesspeople of any color accountable to us, but I'm not in favor of any effort that diverts resources from our cause.  I know it's tempting to want to help others because their plight's sympathetic and/or we are so sick of black people and have become disillusioned with our seemingly immutable situation that we no longer have any energy or desire to focus on our cause, but we have to and we must because nobody else can or will.  We can't afford to get lost in rainbow coalition fantasies and delusions of inclusion.  We're still black; we still have to deal with anti-black racism; and we must keep our eyes on the prize! This blog is called the Black Agenda Report not the Palestinian Agenda Report.  Let's keep it that way!

Isn't that just a little silly...

... to suppose that we have to focus exclusively on domestic stuff and ignore international solidary, at the same time that the military has black flag officers all over Africa, there's a black president fronting for empire and all?

It's not a zero sum game.

    No What's Silly is to...

...call yourself a Black Agenda Report and then push other people's agendas.  What's silly is to expect black leaders to focus on other people's plights when we have a hard enough time trying to get them to focus on our own!  Is Africa not an international concern? The Carribbean? Afro-Latinos? I think I mentioned those. What I can't understand why you are so up in arms about Gaza when we got Gaza in Ferguson, in New York, in LA, in Oakland, and elsewhere in the US? You can expend your energies on Palestinians, Guantanamo Bay Prisoners, Drones in Yemen, and Central American Refugees on the Texas Border if you want to, but I'm gonna focus on our people here and abroad and I think it would be wise you did the same!

It is arguably worse than apartheid

I do not dispute the essence of the argument regarding the CBC cowardice and lack of integrity regarding Israeili terrorism against Palestinians.  But Noam Chomsky's recent explanation (http://www.democracynow.org/blog/2014/8/8/noam_chomsky_what_israel_is_doing)  points to an evil that suggest a crime closer to a 21st century Holocaust.

    Apartheid in Israel?

Noah Chomsky makes, I think, an important contribution to understanding what is happening in Israel:

"In the Occupied Territories, what Israel is doing is much worse than apartheid. To call it apartheid is a gift to Israel, at least if by 'apartheid' you mean South African-style apartheid. What’s happening in the Occupied Territories is much worse. There’s a crucial difference. The South African Nationalists needed the black population. That was their workforce. … The Israeli relationship to the Palestinians in the Occupied Territories is totally different. They just don’t want them. They want them out, or at least in prison."

That interpretation also moves the definition of what Israel is doing closer to genocide.

    Any conclusion about this

Any conclusion about this uneven war must be communicated with legitimate subtleties on the off chance that you would prefer not to be marked an against Semite. To conceal any hint of failure face, it is required to exhibit already your appreciation for the historical backdrop of those individuals and restate your loathsomeness at the camps of fixation and eradication.

    bali villas

"communicate with legitimate subtleties" - Are you serious?

A friend of mine, an immigrant, related that in his country the people came out onto the streets with force and militancy and the police beat them down with batons - but he observed that here in America, the people use the batons on themselves.

Don't use the baton on yourself, my friend.  Call them Nazi murderers and if they call you anti-semite, then call them Nazi murderers even louder.  Give up your fear of speaking the truth and you will actually experience freedom.

    Stigma

STIGMA by MANUEL VICENT 3 August 2014, El País

For an intellectual, being accused of anti-Semitism is a stigma that is difficult to bear. A strange paranoia impels him to believe that a hidden force will impede his access to any international recognition, including awards, professorships, editorials, and newspapers. For fear of being placed on that supposed black list, artists and writers think twice about proffering a limited condemnation of the intolerable spectacle of cruelty and revenge that the state of Israel is perpetrating against the Palestinian people, where the ratio of their advantage is one hundred to one--the famous biblical rate of return. Any opinion about this one-sided war must be expressed with proper nuances if you don’t want to be labeled an anti-Semite. To save face, it is obligatory to demonstrate beforehand your admiration for the history of those people and restate your horror at the camps of concentration and extermination. I think Leon Bloy was accurate when he affirmed that the Jewish people were like that dike across the river of history--which has elevated the level of its current. It may be that the true promised land of this chosen people is North America, where it has developed its enormous creativity. But, perhaps, in exchange for this sanctuary the western war machine has obliged Israel to adapt a sinister role. Israel has become, in short, an American military base, a tiger’s claw against an enemy civilization. With its back well covered by the Pentagon and by a Europe that salves its bad conscience with ambiguity, Israel is allowed to defy international rules with the sense of an omnipotent avenger characteristic of the biblical Yahweh at his worst. Growing anti-Semitism and hatred are a result of this development.

    Translated by Dosamuno

    Intellectuals . . .

Intellectuals are not intimidated by the opinion of others - pseudointellectuals that worry about economic survival, poverty and or fame are tripping over each other to avoid offending anyone by embracing a self-censoring mentality.  The ultimate litmus test of an intellectual is not his/her education, knowledge, or insight but love of humanity and moral decency.

I think it boils down to pure

I think it boils down to pure cowardice. Those who call themselves Jews are descended from 8th century converts who can no more lay biblical claim to that land nor the title of the 'chosen people' than the Palestinians. AshekeNAZIS--curiously acting in the same manner as those who used part of that name. Maybe some things are simply hiding in  plain sight and we just refuse to see them for what they are.

    Irrelevant "history"

The issues in Israel and Gaza are not about who lived where when. That is playing the Zionist game. From the beginnings of the Israeli state, the Zionists have tried to expel or slaughter the indigenous inhabitants of Palestine.

Using "AshekeNAZIS," OTOH, is plain and simple bigotry, because it attacks a specific ethnic group--Ashkenazi Jews--blaming them for the actions of a nation state. That is wrong ethically and historically.

Please keep your bigotry to yourself.

    Thanks.

    Bigotry or TRUTH? Those who

Bigotry or TRUTH? Those who run Israel identify themselves as Jews and they are AshkeNAZI or Khazar Jews so in spite of your sensitivities, those are the FACTS. I am blaming who is running the country. It's not Palestinians or Russians or Germans or Muslims..it's AshkeNAZI Jews. Who are today and have been for 60+ years, exhibiting the SAME type of genocidal behavior used against them in NAZI Germany. Whether you LIKE it OR NOT is of no consequence. It is FACT. And nothing you wrote changes that. Identifying genocide or racism is NOT the same as genocide or racism. People like you amuse me with that...It's circular and pointless and a deflection tactic. I'm no more a bigot for pointing out the OBVIOUS fact about who runs Israel than a firefighter is an arsonist for pointing out a raging fire. Pure silliness.

    The cowardly political class

    Good Morning, Mr. Dixon:

I am white and have 2 mixed daughters and 3 black grandkids.  My one 33 yr. old daughter refuses to turn on Barack Obama because she feels so strongly that he is doing the best he can against the nasty racist Republicans.  I keep trying to show her how he is actually often helping the thugs and that much of the thug racism is actually calling out the racist base regardless of their personal feelings.  I keep trying to teach her that if BO was a true leader and had any ethics, he'd stand like a Dr. King to speak the truth regardless of the political consequences. Of course, he sold out before he ever got there or he'd not be there without Chase, GoldmanSachs and his other corporate funders.

I send her your articles and keep trying to get her to see that Cornel West, Chris Hedges, BAR and others are correct in these assessments.  I also send appropriate books for my grandkids to get the truth of their black heritage.  I refuse to allow them or anyone I encounter to be left in the dark of self-hatred due to this miseducation they are getting in school history propaganda.

Thanks for your great work and I will keep trying to reach folks here.  :)
