We are excited to present to our readers this demonstration version of BATV, the video program that will become part of the Black Agenda Report team’s regular schedule, later this year. BATV is a work in progress, and this demo is by no means the final version. We do hope it conveys the spirit of how we plan to bring “news, commentary and analysis from the black left” to video.

BATV needs your ideas and active collaboration, so that we can create a powerful video mechanism for social transformation – as well as a show that is pleasing to the eye, ear and mind. We know there are organizations and individuals that are already creating video compatible with BATV’s mission – or would do so if the proper platform existed. Let’s discuss how BATV can incorporate some of the good political work that is currently being done in video, and encourage the production of more and better video materials for the people’s media.

We’d like to hear from you. Please view the demo, and let us know your opinion of this, our first video effort. Use the comments to this page below. Your comments are public. Please know that although we do read the comments we don't often answer them..

I watched the BATV pilot with 3 other artists yesterday and everyone agreed that it rocks! The music,the passionate young poets,the raw movie clip about James Bird Jr. and the wonderful interview with Cynthia McKinney all came together smoothly in your newest medium. We agreed that the info ribbon at screen's bottom did not distract from the vivid images and we thought the logo was fresh and nostalgic at once. Thanks BAR people! We will share it with many and look forward to the next show.

African scholar Mahmood Mamdani challenges the fabricated stats and fraudelent history popularized by the Save Darfur Coalition and the advocates of robust U.S. military intervention in Sudan. The Save Darfur Coalition, he argues is not a peace movement but a war dance, blocking a peaceful settlement by spreading falsified casualty figures, groundless charges of genocide, and offering the U.S. public an appealing but misleading case for military intervention.

The year that saw an African American run for the presidency as a viable contender also witnessed a truly remarkable silence. While millions of words written about the political ascent of one black man, there was virtually nothing about the descent of black leadership into well-nigh total ineffectiveness. Barack Obama’s personal itinerary was mapped in the minutest detail. The larger itinerary of African Americans was mostly ignored.
