Democrats Don’t Even Pretend to Want Change

“Dumping the Democrats for good is the only way to resist Trump,” said Black Agenda Report editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley, addressing BAR’s panel at the Left Forum, in New York City. “What have they done since Election Day?” Kimberley asked. “They have refused to give even the appearance that they are willing to push for even meager reforms. We have to talk about replacing them and having a true workers party, a true peace party.”

Political Elite Use Russia-Baiting to “Medicate” U.S. “Crisis of Governance”

The U.S. is engulfed in a “crisis of governance” that has been “intentionally misunderstood” by the corporate media and the political elite, said Danny Haiphong, a contributing political analyst at BAR. Anti-Russian hysteria has been whipped up “to medicate political consciousness.” “They don’t want to discuss how Russia has absolutely nothing to do with the millions of incarcerated people in the U.S., or the fact that it is the U.S. monopoly capitalist economy, not the emerging capitalist economy of Russia, which has automated many of the jobs and siphoned much of the wealth that once belonged to a privileged sector of U.S. workers,” said Haiphong. “This system has run its course. War is all the system has left.”

The Ugly Americans

According to Dahoud Andre, the radio host and Haitian community activist who spoke at the BAR panel, Haitians wonder, “What’s the difference between Trump and the Democrats?” “From the perspective of our country, from the time we became independent we have been equally attacked by Democrats and Republicans. And, sometimes it is very difficult for us to understand the notion of ‘progressive Americans,’” said Andre. Solidarity is sorely needed. “It’s one struggle, whether its in Haiti, in Africa, in the Middle East, Asia, and also over here.”

A Real Left Would Demand Peace

“If you are resisting Russian collusion with Trump, then what you are resisting is a fantasy,” BAR executive editor Glen Ford told the opening plenary of the Left Forum. “And, if you are simply resisting Trump, the idiot in the White House, then you are simply a tool of a Democratic Party strategy.” Ford said the nation needs a rejuvenated anti-war movement, “or else we are defenseless against this kind of strategy on the part of the Democrats, who pretend that they are an alternative to the fascist-sounding and definitely virulently white nationalist forces in the Republican Party, but are themselves intent upon a war policy that can mean the extinction of the human race.”

Next week on Black Agenda Radio: Left Forum presentations by BAR managing editor Bruce Dixon, BAR editor and columnist Ajamu Baraka, the 2016 Green Party vice-presidential candidate, and Duboisian scholar Dr. Anthony Monteiro.

Black Agenda Radio on the Progressive Radio Network is hosted by Glen Ford and Nellie Bailey. A new edition of the program airs every Monday at 11:00am ET on PRN. Length: one hour.

Manufactured Hysteria Over Russia Requires 24/7 Upkeep

A Black Agenda Radio commentary by executive editor Glen Ford

The ruling class and its media are most vengeful against Donald Trump, not based on issues of justice and equality, but because he showed that middle America was “nowhere near as gung-ho for endless war” as had been assumed. This triggered an existential crisis for the U.S. imperialism. If Trump’s people were not the war constituency, then who was? The hate-Russia machine roared into frenzied action.

Obama’s New Job: Guardian of Official Lies

by BAR executive editor Glen Ford

Having spent eight years telling lies about who the U.S. was fighting in its so-called “War on Terror” (secular governments) and who it was allied with (jihadists), ex-president Obama must now ensure that these lies become part of the “common base line of facts” shared by all Americans. “Fake news” must not be allowed to interrupt the flow of the official (false) narrative. That’s how “legacies” are made, and how power is preserved.

Freedom Rider: Do Americans Have No Shame?

by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley

Putting aside the lack of any proof of Russian interference in U.S. elections, Americans have some nerve complaining about outside meddling when they have violated the sovereign rights of much of the planet. Americans owe the world heartfelt acts of contrition. “There ought to be a march of apology from Americans to people in Grenada, Haiti, Honduras, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Somalia, Libya, and yes in Russia too.”

Freedom Rider: Obama’s Last Gasp Imperialism

by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley

President Obama’s remaining days in office may be short, but “there is no reason to mourn or rejoice Obama’s departure because he will be followed by someone who likes his foreign policy as it is.” Hillary Clinton was his partner in imperial crime, and “the supposedly left wing Bernie Sanders warns of non-existent Russian aggression, supports presidential ‘kill lists’ and thinks that having U.S. troops in Syria is a fine idea.”

Black Agenda Radio for Week of January 25, 2016

Dismantling Capitalism and Imperialism

This month’s conference on the Black Radical Tradition, held at Temple University, in Philadelphia, was an historic gathering of 21st century Black “anti-capitalists and anti-imperialists,” said Dr. Anthony Monteiro, one of the organizers of the event. “Not only were we talking about a different foreign policy, but about dismantling the military-industrial and police state in the U.S.,” said Monteiro. He envisions “massive civil disobedience that will take place over extended periods of time, where you make those who benefit from the police state and the military-industrial complex pay a price.”

Flint Takes U.S. Ethnic Cleansing to a New Level

The lead poisoning of Flint, Michigan’s water system is “a crime against humanity – part of the ongoing story of ethnic cleansing in the United States,” said Black Agenda Report editor and columnist Dr. Marsha Coleman-Adebayo, who two decades ago blew the whistle on corruption and racism at the Environmental Protection Agency. Dr. Coleman-Adebayo said the EPA “completely and totally abandoned its mission” to safeguard Flint’s water quality, and the agency’s regional administrator “should be sent to jail,” instead of just being forced to resign.

Uhuru! Sign the Genocide Petition

Despite frigid weather, the Uhuru Movement set up tent encampments in Jackson, Mississippi, New York City, Chicago and Washington, DC, where the United Nations has been holding hearings on human rights violations against Black people in the United States. International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement president Herdosia Bentum said “this cold is not as brutal as the system that has been on our backs for 600 years.” Uhuru activists are collecting signatures on a petition charging the U.S. with genocide against Blacks.

Campus Tour: No More Stolen Lives

The Stop Mass Incarceration Network, founded five years ago by Carl Dix and Dr. Cornel West, is holding regional conferences in cities around the country “to forge the kind of movement that can stop the horror of police getting away with murder in this country, said Dix. The gatherings in New York, Charlotte, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles will put the finishing touches on a “No More Stolen Lives” tour of college campuses, to bring more students into movement politics.

New Year, Same Crisis: Prepare for Imperialism's Terror and Carnage in 2016

by Danny Haiphong

“Happy New Year” means something totally different to the Lords of Capital and their military goons. “The ruling class's resolution for the New Year is to increase the misery of the people and enrich itself, even as the system moves more and more toward collapse every day.” Wall Street’s power is also sustained by the Mass Black Incarceration State, whose mission is to contain and terrorize “those whose labor is no longer necessary for production.”

NATO and the Dangerous Escalation of US imperialism

by Danny Haiphong

If World War III comes, NATO will likely be the source of the conflagration. “The parasitic rulers of the imperial system have calculated that a march to war with Russia and China is a necessary precondition to US dominance.” NATO has become imperialism’s global strike force. “The NATO-backed destabilization of Libya provided the blueprint for the current proxy war in Syria.”

Beirut, Baghdad and Paris: The Colonial Racialized Hierarchy of Terrorism's Victims

by Sukant Chandan

When French, British or U.S. citizens die in terror attacks, the victims are humanized. However, when the West slaughters people of color, the victims are anonymous. ISIS behaves similarly. “The common thread between European racism and these assymetric mirror reflections of them is that certain categories of people are worthy of humanity, and then there are other groups of people who are expendable, who can be massacred without trace or justice.”

Mom, Is It War Yet? Part III: "Terminological Inexactitudes"

by Dr. T.P. Wilkinson

The only real challenge to the lies of Empire is to confront the Empire, itself. “The unstated premise of Euro-American domination is that the US and its European vassals constitute the highest stage of human and political development to which all other peoples and cultures naturally must aspire.”

Liberalism Still the Left Flank of Oppression in the Coming Post-Obama World

by Danny Haiphong

It is already clear that the buzz words gay rights and the Confederate flag “will be used by the powerful to move as many disaffected people toward the Democratic Party as possible.” In reality, “the American flag is the global banner of white supremacy and oppression of LGBTQ people. Its Stars and Stripes are responsible for the genocide of indigenous peoples, enslavement of Africans, and the exploitation of the global working class.”
