Iran Apocalypse Soon

The Obama administration’s behavior toward Iran is eerily reminiscent of George Bush’s mobilization for war against Iraq in the half-year before the actual invasion. A recently leaked Pentagon directive and a host of other factors are “consistent with preparations for a general mobilization, as begun against Iraq by the Bush regime in the summer of 2002.”

Iran Apocalypse Soon

by BAR executive editor Glen Ford

The Pentagon is empowered to mount far more, and farther ranging missions into Iran and elsewhere in Obama’s ever-expanding theaters of war.”

President Obama’s plans for all-out assault against Iran are at roughly the same point of preparation and likelihood of execution as George Bush’s plans for Iraq in the summer of 2002. As with Bush’s deployment of forces deep into Iraq months before his successful request for War Powers in October, 2002, and more than half a year before full scale invasion in March, 2003, there is still time to halt Obama’s methodical movement toward full-scale war – but not much.

This week’s deliberate leaks of Pentagon orders to deploy U.S. special operations forces in Iran, Yemen, Somalia and even U.S.-allied Saudi Arabia are designed to acclimate the public to escalating U.S. operations in the region and within Iran, itself. The Administration also thought it prudent to prepare the public for when Americans are inevitably captured or killed in Iran or elsewhere they have no right to be, under international law. U.S. special operations soldiers are authorized to infiltrate “friendly and hostile nations in the Middle East, Central Asia and the Horn of Africa to gather intelligence and build ties with local forces.” The reconnaissance aspects of the missions “could pave the way for possible military strikes in Iran,” said the designated receiver of the leaked documents, The New York Times.

Predictably, the Times raised no questions of its own about the legality of the new policy, which is said to have gone into effect in September, beyond noting that “Many in the military are also concerned that as American troops assume roles far from traditional combat, they would be at risk of being treated as spies if captured and denied the Geneva Convention protections afforded military detainees.” But sending armed troops into another nation’s territory to “’prepare the environment’ for future attacks” is not mere spying – it is an act of war, in preparation for aggressive war, the “supreme international crime, differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole," under the Nuremburg Principles.

There is still time to halt Obama’s methodical movement toward full-scale war – but not much.”

The Times interprets the document as authorizing military operations to gather intelligence on Iranian nuclear facilities and to “identify dissident groups that might be useful for a future military offensive.” In fact, under both Bush and Obama, the U.S. has contacted, encouraged and armed Iranian Kurds, Arabs, Baluchs and other minority groups and dissidents to carry out attacks against Iran. The “new” directive, code-named Avocado, allows the Pentagon to carry out these aggressions without the participation of the CIA, according to the Times.

The Atlantic’s interpretation of the directive says it allows “combatant commanders to put together task forces for almost any purpose, and draw from almost any existing military unit.” This is consistent with preparations for a general mobilization, as begun against Iraq by the Bush regime in the summer of 2002.

Marc Ambinder, the Atlantic’s reporter, writes that “Even during the Bush administration, the military did not insert American personnel into Iran, which is what the Avocado execute order now permits.”

Whether this is a “first” or not, the Obama administration is clearly making itself ready to launch an attack on Iran that is eerily similar to the Iraq mobilization of 2002. The September 23, 2002 issue of the New York Times reported that “elite Special Operations troops have been told to separate from the military temporarily and to join C.I.A. units that could be used in any campaign. Those troops would bring their counterterrorism skills to covert missions while allowing the Pentagon to maintain that no uniformed combat forces were in action.“ Under the Avocado directive, already in force for the last eight months, the Pentagon is empowered to mount far more, and farther ranging missions into Iran and elsewhere in Obama’s ever-expanding theaters of war, without playing second-fiddle to the much smaller CIA. And there is no longer even the pretense that U.S. combat troops are not involved, as in mid-2002.

The Obama regime bullies aside all efforts to defuse the manufactured Iran 'crisis.'”

Like the Bush Administration during the run-up to the Iraq invasion, the Obama regime bullies aside all efforts to defuse the manufactured Iran “crisis,” most recently by dismissing the Turkish-Brazilian agreement to swap Iranian nuclear fuel stocks. Obama seems as fully committed to war as his predecessor in the half-year before the Iraq invasion– but with no significant anti-war movement to contend with, and a Black population that is still drunk on the delusion that the First Black President shares their anti-war instincts.

Only 500 or so days into his administration, Obama has picked up the pieces of Bush’s imperial policies, and rushes forward to expand the Empire by force of arms.

T.T. knows very well what he's talking about as well as

which part of his body he sqeezes it out of; and the below excerpt from http://www.counterpunch.org/ is deliates this fact most accurately, and is directed at exactly those who's idea of America fits so disgracefully well with murdering, war monguering, genocidal/rogue state-nations like Israel and our beloved very own.

"Many Christian evangelicals, brainwashed by their pastors that it is God’s will for Americans to protect Israel, will believe the Israeli story, especially when it is unlikely they will ever hear any other. Conservative Americans, especially on Memorial Day when they are celebrating feats of American arms, will admire Israel for its toughness.   Here in north Georgia where I am at the moment, I have heard several say, admiringly,  “Them, Israelis, they don’t put up with nuthin.”

Conservative Americans want the US to be like Israel. They do not understand why  the US doesn’t stop pissing around after nine years and just go ahead and defeat the Taliban in Afghanistan.  They don’t understand why the US didn’t defeat whoever was  opposing American forces in Iraq. Conservatives are incensed that America had to “win”  the war by buying off the Iraqis and putting them on the US payroll. Israel murders people and then blames its victims. This appeals to American conservatives, who want the US to do the same."

It's a Shame

I am a Christian and I must say any Christian pulling guard for Israel and the Zionists & Talmudic genocial chosen ones are completely out of their minds.  I read Dr. Roberts article and agree with it.  Come out from among them foolish Christians!!  It's a shame and I'm disgusted.  T.T.  has been showing his colors.

Texas Tim has no Idea

T.T.

You have no idea what your writing about when it comes to Iran  and our country.  First you need to do a great deal of research on who the Iranians are.  They are not Arab.  Second you need to do your research on our meddeling in Iran's business right down to overthrowing their democraticly elected government which we helped overthrow and install the Shah.  We overthrew him as well.  Look at our instigating warfare between Iraq and Iran and the devastation we are responsible for on both sides of that conflict.

http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB28/

You also don't know what the Zionism is and you need to do your homework. Start with this.

www.jewsagainstzionism.com

Then after you dig into that and buy the books and do your research.  Do your homework on what the religious "Talmudists" jews believe.  You will be quite shocked that their beliefs have nothing to do with the TORAH (5 books of Moses), but is interchangeable with the TALMUD.  If you are fortunate enough to get a copy in english of an unedited Babylonian Talmud or if you have the CHUTZPAH to go to a Yeshiva and read the books for yourself you will find that these people hate Jesus and say he used Witchcraft, and lived an immoral life.  They hate Christians,  Muslims, People of Color,  and Non Jews.

Now I want you to see and find out for yourself that ISRAEL has no TREATY with America.  They are not your friend.  Wake up!!

The specter of inevitability must be broken

It has to be something in the TV signals that makes the general American public oblivious to the actions being taken towards an Iranian conflict. I don't know how the hell this is going to be halted.  Between the 'left's' "Obama can do no wrong" mentality and the 'right's' "Bomb, bomb, bomb (insert scapegoat nation here)", I'm just baffled.

This is the so-called Information Age. Yet what we need is an Age of Wisdom, not mere information and data.

I don't know how the public will dedicate themselves to ending these wars if we don't come together firmly in solidarity in understanding who gains from the belligerence and the rest of humanity who loses a little bit more.

Goddamnit, the emperor has no clothes on...

I'm just outraged and resigned and disappointed all at the same time. I wish I could just build a movement of my local peers to be aware of geopolitics and how it relates to them towards a potentially prosperous future for them...but it's hard enough to get them in front of a computer screen to look at anything besides Facebook. And then my elders who have established stubborness to rapid information see that temperment as some high character trait. It doesn't matter if all hell may break loose in regards to all the signs pointing to worldwide calamity on an unprecedented level, we'll just take it in stride. And, naturally, it's all in God's hands.

Anyone else tired of taking it in stride?

Americans are in the primary position to stop what is being planned. Which, if history tells me right, means the world is proper f^)ked 8 ways from Sunday.

The worlds people today were born into this imperial bulls#!t. Some slosh around in ankle-deep doo doo. Some are waist-deep in the muck. And, if you're an Afrikan, the s#!t is up to your eyeballs.

Apocalypse Iran

The other comment gives us hope that maybe this won't happen.  Right up until April 2003, I thought we had a good chance to stop the invasion and occupation of Iraq.  Millions were demonstrating all over the world.  Apparently, that means absolutely nothing to a Republican Administration, and even less to the Democrats who were elected by people who are peace and justice activists.

One difference is that the biggest potential war profiteers aren't running the government any longer.  This is mostly a Zionist initiative (attacking Iran), and the Zionists are presently in retreat, or at least defensive about promoting any more wars in the Middle East.

The frightening part of all this is how the Obama Administration isn't even pretending to want peace or any sort of recognizable
New World Order.  All they want to do is passive-aggressively cave in to whatever white racists and Muslim-haters might ask of them.  Of course, the Clinton-Albright faction is still controlling foreign (and war) policy.  If this is "feminism," could we please get back to macho male chauvinism?  At least those guys know that war isn't a picnic or some sort of "coming out" party.  .

Apocalypse Iran

Mr. Stephens,

Until you face up to the fact the neither party serves the interests of it's people we really have no hope.  The only people who will benefit from a strike against the people who created CHESS are the Israeli "Zionists" and "Talmudists".  No one is facing up to the fact that Israel is in possession of Nuclear weapons which no U.N. inspector has been able to verify or check.  To be honest most gentile whites don't know why we are even in the middle east.  The charade is over.  Most of them don't hate Muslims and are tired of eating the zionists crap.  Israel and its American lobbyist (AIPAC, ADL, Southern Poverty Law Center, World Jewish Congress) run our government and have been for a long time.  I ask you who controls our media, print? Who own large stocks and sits on the boards of the pharmaceutical, military industrial complex, financial institutions, and fortune 500 companies? Who prints your money?  Who runs our higher educational institutions?  Who funds the radicalized organizations?  Who sits on and runs the foundations who funds these organizations?  When you identify their names you now know who sets your foreign policies and runs your countries and destroys others.  Your best bet is to abandon the demopub and republocrat parties and go your own way. Otherwise we will be all glowing people gone the way of the dinosaur.  Time to abandon the left/right paradigm.

Bombing - possible, ground attack - unlikely

People like Seymour Hersch have been warning about an imminent attack against Iran for years. While it is likely some U.S. planners would like to see it happen, it didn't come to pass, and a full ground attack is not likely to happen now, for practical reasons.

I think I have seen an online lecture by you, Glen, in which you pointed out that the Iraqi resistance prevented an attack on Iran under the Bush administration. Obama's constraints are similar. Aerial bombing is cheap and relatively low-risk and is therefore possible (if not very likely), but a full ground attack is politically dangerous, and logistically difficult since the troops are not available - it is a virtual impossibility.

Waiting to attack since 1980

I joined the US Army in 1980 fully expecting to show Iran the consequences of holding Americans hostage for 444 days.  30 years later, I'm still waiting for justice.  Muslim majority countries are an enemy of America.  They mutilate and subjugate their women.  They demand conversion, conquest or death for all non-Muslims.  They violate treaties the moment doing so seems to advantage them.  Their governments rarely rise above tribalism even though some like Afghanistan put on a good show in order to stay latched on to the American teat.  They are a dispicable culture stuck in the bronze age but controlling massive wealth from oil.  If our government had a lick of sense, we would severe all ties, forcing them to cut each other's throats instead of ours.

Fortunately, Israel looks like they'll be forced to attack Iran in order to stay alive.  If Israel would accept my help, I'd be happy to drag my old behind to the Middle East and fight beside them.

Ye Ole Hypocrite, Ye Ole Beezlebub

And you reject being refered to as a Confederate?

Your below statement sounds like the tenants of the Spanish Conqeuest or those enlightened so called forefathers of yours who forst set up their slaughterous camp at Jamestown some 360 years ago, or maybe even more better and up to date(considering your egoistic leanings) that blathering big mouthed, biggot and maniacle wretched New England appostle of god himself Cotton Mather.

You also write: "If Israel would accept my help, I'd be happy to drag my old behind to the Middle East and fight beside them."

Well they already do, and you're not even on the Payroll chump!

Hey, sneezy

Still hatin' on Whitey, I see, griping about what dead Europeans did centuries ago.  How far in school did you get?  What was your major?  Are you working diligently?  saving? supporting your wife and children? paying your own bills?  staying clean and sober?  going to church?  taking care of your body and soul?  being kind to neighbors and strangers?

When you can do all that yourself and still have time to suffer from discrimination, come talk to me.  A man steps up.  A whining child steps off.  What will you be?

Big, Bad Manly Man... HA

T.T., someone from your congregation said you had a habit of looking up the dresses of fine, shapely women in the congregation as you sat in the deacons chair on the dais.  True or not??

You need to stop that holier than thou shit before someone catches you in bed with the Choir Director, he or she.  You know how you christian conservatives like to go on the "down low."   HA

Hopefully you haven't been doing any tap dancing in the bathrooms at Dulles International.  Aren't you related to Ted Haggard??  Or was that Swaggart??

You can't handle the truth

Been married 14-1/2 years to the only gal for me.  If men are dogs, I'm a Golden Retriever.  I know where my ball, food and bed are and don't care to go sniffin' anywhere else.  I don't mean to fool you into thinking I've got it all worked out because I don't.  I'm a sinner.  It's God's grace that makes me whole, not anything I can do.

The sex thing... In all honesty, I've done things I'm ashamed of.  I make no excuses for them because they were dead wrong.  If I was younger, I might STILL be tempted.  On the other hand, I'm built for the family life.  I never liked being single even if I was good at it which is debatable.  I KNOW I'm good at being married and a father.  If you need advice there, let me know.

Her's some advice for free.  When your wife is pregnant, know that she's gonna' be on an emotional roller-coaster for the better part of a year and be prepared.  When someone at work pisses her off, offer to kick their ass.  When she struggles to get up with an 8-lb. watermelon strapped to her gut, jump to help her.  When faced with a choice of searching the town for a place that serves biscuits and gravy in the middle of the night or seeing that "you don't really love me" look for the next 4 days, choose the food hunt.  Be her best friend and her fiercest advocate.  Don't even think about joking around cuz you'll screw it up.  Just fight for her.  Do that and you'll have a more peaceful home and a better marriage for it.  You might even find that doing the right thing is more enjoyable.

Oh Tigger...

... you're too much really!

Oooooh! It seems I found Timmy's sensitive spot or spots. Or maybe I should say stripes, because you're such a Tough Tiger and i would think that such a Tough Tiger like you could find other people to bore to death with all your Tail chasing.

It's a pun Timmy!

Grrrrrraaarrrr!
