Two-Thirds of Planet Backs Iran Against “West”
A Black Agenda Radio commentary by Glen Ford
The Nonaligned Movement, comprising two-thirds of the world’s nations, voted unanimously in support of Iran’s nuclear power rights. “They rejected the dictates of Washington and London and Paris, endorsing the fundamental principle that Iran has the same sovereign rights as any other nation.” It is the U.S. and Europe that are out of synch with the world.
Two-Thirds of Planet Backs Iran Against “West”
A Black Agenda Radio commentary by Glen Ford
“Who, then, is isolated in the world – Iran, or the U.S. and Europe?”
The United States and its European allies – the old imperialists and the new – tell their countries’ populations that Iran is isolated in the world, and will have to get rid of its nuclear energy infrastructure in order to be allowed back into what they call “the community of nations.” Among the power groupies that call themselves journalists in the West, Iran is routinely referred to as a “pariah” nation, lurking at the very edge of civilization and sanity. The United States, by this reasoning, is showing great wisdom and forbearance, for not having already unleashed its carrier task forces, Marine divisions, Special Forces commandos, and swarms of drones on the crazed Iranians. Instead, the U.S., in it infinite goodness, enforces a strangling economic and oil embargo, to make the Iranian nation scream.
The Iranians are lucky, Americans and Europeans are told, that the U.S. holds back its friends in Israel, who are eager to give the ayatollah’s in Tehran a lesson in how to behave. But, whatever happens at the end of this game to force Iran to give up its lawful right to own and operate the full industrial cycle of nuclear power, western audiences are assured that the “international community” will approve. After all, Iran is a global outcast. CNN and the New York Times tell us so every day.
“Someone is committing a crime, and its not Iran.”
Last week, the 120 nations of the Nonaligned Movement voted unanimously and without qualification in support of Iran’s right to produce nuclear energy, and to enrich their own uranium in the process. The Nonaligned Movement makes up about two-thirds of all the nations of the world. As a solid block of humanity, they rejected the dictates of Washington and London and Paris – the imperial powers that for centuries enslaved most of the planet – endorsing the fundamental principle that Iran has the same sovereign rights as any other nation.
Who, then, is isolated in the world – Iran, whose position is backed by two-thirds of the world’s countries, or the U.S. and Europe?
Clearly, the Americans and Europeans still believe that the only world opinion that counts, is the white world. The arrogance of the colonizer and imperialist is infinite, but their power is not – not any longer. The Nonaligned Movement vote is a global referendum, not on Iran’s lawful pursuit of its internal development policies, but on U.S. imperial bullying and criminality. Because, if Iran is within its rights, then the U.S. and the European Union are in the wrong in waging economic war, and threatening military assault, against Iran. Someone is committing a crime, and its not Iran. Two-thirds of the world says so.
The vote is all the more remarkable because the Americans and Europeans, and even the Israelis, exercise great influence over the affairs of much of what used to be called the Third World. Yet still, the former colonies and subjugated nations of the Nonaligned Movement voted unanimously, and on principle, rather than kowtow to power.
There is a lesson here. The Empire remains militarily strong and capable of great crimes. But it has lost much of its powers of coercion – without which, Empire must ultimately cease to exist. For Black Agenda Radio, I’m Glen Ford. On the web, go to BlackAgendaReport.com.

Excellent!
Its quite interesting that these countries arein rebellion. Who is funding this rebellion. Thankfully the Chinese and Russians whose Security Council veto has preserved the peace must be providing cover and protection against the bankers of the west who seek their eternal servitude. Egypt disappointed by voting against Iran and then accepting a loan. That was predicted by Webster trarply ages ago. The Arab Spring is indeed a CIA orchestrated fraud.
Working the best it could for now
Yes China and Russia is voting against any military action which is what we want because the US gets to pickup most the tab including human life. I have heard that on a regular basis that Iran has stated they want to blow Israel to you know where. I do agree that we should be more forceful with Israel to make piece with their neighbors but I don't think this would stop the hate. This religious thing has no logic and I don't think anyone would argue that. The US has issued the strongest sanctions but can't remember when that has ever worked and we do pay the price at the pump. You have to think why is Iran so interested in having nuclear capability. Ok, is does get you to a better table when you have that capability but the stability of Iran politically is worse than people think and massive purchases by countries have been made by countries that could be their enemies within the middle east. There just is not a good outcome here and I absolutely do not believe the facts you are trying to state.
You've Heard that Iran Constantly Threatens Israel...
IE: the alleged 'Wipe off the Map' comment. But that allegation has been refuted- seemingly it's anti-Iran demonization hype. You wonder about Iran's nuclear prog even though it's under IAEA inspection [Iran's a member of the NPT], but what about Israel which refuses to join the NPT & rejects IAEA inspections? Iran has put the idea of a non-Nuclear Mid-East region on the Table, which the US & Israel rejects.
IMO: The one thing that the US &/or Israel can do to insure that Iran goes all out for a nuclear arsenal, is to launch an un-provoked attack on Iran. Yet your guy Obama refuses to even take an unprovoked nuclear first strike on Iran off the table!
You have no idea what you're talking about.
"You have to think why is Iran so interested in having nuclear capability. "
For the same reason any other country that has nuclear power plants has them. To generate electricity. You need to ask yourself "When did Iran cease being an independent country?" If the answer is "It hasn't", which is the correct answer, then you need to ask yourself "Why should I, or my country, or anyone else for that matter think that it is our place to try to coerce or bully Iran into giving up its nuclear program?" The U.S. has more nukes than anyone else. I don't see anybody demanding that the U.S. give up its nuclear weapons and the U.S. is literally the ONLY country in the world that has actually USED them against anybody in war.
Israel has 200+ nuclear weapons plus ballistic missiles to deliver them, called Jericho missiles. Funny, I don't see anyone demanding either that I.A.E.A. inspectors take a tour of Israel's nuclear missile silos or labs, do you? Why is there a double standard? Why is it OK for the Zionist apartheid state to have nukes but noooooooobody else in the Middle East is allowed to? Why are the U.S. and Israel making demands of Iran that they themselves would never agree to? Do you see how this makes the U.S. and Israel literally the world's biggest hypocrites?
" I have heard that on a regular basis that Iran has stated they want to blow Israel to you know where."
Israel repeatedly makes threats to launch an unprovoked attack against Iran. In response Iran has made threats to retaliate in kind and I can't blame them for that. Are you also aware that, beyond threats, the Israelis are routinely having their spies inside Iran assassinate Iranian scientists? Isn't that terrorism? Oh of course not, not when Israel does it, right? If someone was in Israel assassinating Israeli scientists then they would immediately be labeled terrorists but when Israel's spies do it to someone else then it's fine, right? Face it, the U.S. and Israel are clearly in the wrong in this Iran warmongering situation.
Once Again
These scare tactics once again align with the republican plan for massive increases in defense spending all to provide lucrative defense contracts with companies that all have former politicians or high level government employees using there connections to obtain by getting into another conflict. I will say it again, be very careful with what Glen Ford is saying because he has a completely different agenda and no interest in where this country or the world should be going. Do your homework. Find out more about this guy and this organization to see who is funding it. I think you will be surprised or even shocked.
Since You Claim That Glen Ford & BAR have a Covert Agenda...
& are secretly backed by hard-core Repug FOX type operatives- Provide the proof- IE: Put up or Shut up!
There's another guy who insinuates that BAR is in cahoots w 'Zionists' because BAR doesn't encourage Blacks to join forces w white neo-WASP Christian Nationalists against 'liberal Zionists'. I guess you can't please everyone.
Rice predicts war with Iran
Last week at a legal seminar in California former Secretary of State Condolezza Rice said there will be a war with Iran before the end of 2012, either the Israelis or the U.S. will strike.
She also said
that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and that "we don't want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud." And amid the rubble of Israel's embarrassingly inept war against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon in summer 2006 that it was "the birth pangs of the new Middle East."
Condi doesn't know her ass from a hole in the ground.
